Technical Approach

The scientists who plan a project also run its field program and analyze its data. We do not hand off equipment: one technical team carries each project from test design through reporting.

Planning, Field Operations, and Analysis

1. Strategic Test Planning

1. Strategic Test Planning

1. Strategic Test Planning

  • Experimental design for geophysical, geotechnical, and analytical testing, built around site constraints
  • Sampling and Analysis Plans (SAPs) and drilling programs written to meet project data quality objectives
  • Isotope-specific testing plans for radiological characterization
  • Sampling methods and detection limits for environmental chemistry
  • Integration of archaeological survey and cultural resource requirements on DOE and tribal lands

2. Field Operations

1. Strategic Test Planning

1. Strategic Test Planning

  • Drilling management, including well testing and installation
  • Geophysical logging, chemical sampling, and geotechnical testing
  • Laboratory QA/QC and oversight for geotechnical testing
  • Installation oversight and QA/QC for geotechnical stabilization systems
  • Data review in the field as it is collected, with acquisition settings adjusted to site conditions

3. Post-Data Analysis

1. Strategic Test Planning

3. Post-Data Analysis

  • Automated processing of raw sensor data in project-specific programming environments
  • Spectral processing, gain matching, and log merging in in-house software
  • Data validation against project acceptance criteria, documented in a certificate of quality
  • Petrophysical and hydrogeochemical interpretation integrated with geologic and site data
  • Reports written to support remediation and regulatory decisions

Radiation Safety Program

Radiological field work is conducted under a corporate radiation safety program led by our Corporate Radiation Safety Officer. He has completed Radiation Safety Officer, Radiological Worker II, and 40-hour HAZWOPER training, and has served as RSO under a Washington State radioactive materials license. Neutron sources used for moisture logging are supplied by the site operator and used under the site's radiation protection program. The program covers:

  • ALARA planning and dose control for field operations
  • Coordination with the radiation protection program of the site operator
  • Pre- and post-survey source checks and documented instrument functionality checks
  • Compliance with DOE, national laboratory, and state safety requirements at each site
